Cassegrain Optics telescopes come in different variants that are characterised by curves used on both the primary mirror and the secondary mirror. Cassegrain’s foremost feature is these two reflecting curved mirrors. A small convex mirror is placed near the top most part of the telescope while a bigger concave mirror that has gap at the centre is located at the telescope’s bottom on it’s tube. The smaller mirror reflects lights from the bigger concave mirror all the way down the tube through the gap at its centre, to the focus point at the back.

Schmidt Optics telescopes are highly specialized equipments. Because of their high cost, Schmidt Optics telescopes are built mainly for observatories. However, a few astronomy fanatics are known to own them. The instrument is named after Bernhard Schmidt who after vigorous computations arrived at the optimum corrector plate. The typical Schmidt optical telescope has a spherical main mirror and a specialized lens located in front of the main mirror called the Schmidt Corrector Plate in honor of Bernhard Schmidt.
